Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain secured their spots in the Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday night, after two intense clashes against FC Barcelona and Liverpool.
In Madrid, Atletico showed resilience against a spirited Barcelona team. Despite a 2-1 defeat in the return leg, Diego Simeone’s men held on to their 2-0 lead from the first leg at Camp Nou.
Lamine Yamal shone for Barcelona, scoring two early goals to put the visitors in front. However, Antoine Griezmann’s pivotal role in Ademola Lookman’s goal reduced the deficit and allowed Atletico to advance. Goalkeeper Juan Musso also played a crucial role with key saves. Barcelona’s European woes against Atletico continued.
In the other quarter-final, PSG asserted their dominance over Liverpool with another 2-0 victory at Anfield, following the same result in the first leg. This marks PSG’s third consecutive appearance in the Champions League semi-finals.
Luis Enrique’s side, pressured by Liverpool, relied on an exceptional Matvei Safonov in goal to protect their lead. Despite a strong push from the Reds, Ousmane Dembele’s brace secured the win for PSG.
Despite Liverpool’s efforts and intensity, they couldn’t overturn the tie, facing a solid PSG defense and an outstanding goalkeeper.
At the end of these matches, Atletico Madrid and PSG continue their European journey, reaching the top four teams on the continent, showcasing their ambitions in this season’s Champions League.
