The musical contest in Lannemezan is back for its fourth edition under the auspices of the U.M.P.E. More than seventy amateur musicians, aged 7 to 77, will try to qualify for the regional qualifications of the Grand Sud-Ouest.
On Saturday, May 30th, the Lannemezan community hall will come alive with the rhythm of instruments and talents sharing their love for music. Starting at 2 pm, the city will host the fourth edition of the contest organized under the U.M.P.E., the Union of European Music Teachers, a highly anticipated event for music lovers in the Plateau and beyond.
Initiated by Nadine Rémy-Mazeaud from the Triolets school, with active support from the municipality of Lannemezan, this musical event has established itself over the years as an important cultural event in the region.
An access to regional qualifications For this 2026 edition, a jury from Pays de la Loire will specially travel to evaluate the candidates in different categories. As the organizers specify, “This contest is an important step for participants as it allows access to the regional qualifications of the Grand Sud-Ouest, alongside eight other regions involved in the competition. The best performers can then hope to participate in the national final scheduled for Saturday, October 31st in Gérardmer, Vosges.”
The uniqueness and richness of this contest lie in its openness to all styles and generations. Solo amateur musicians, aged from 7 to 77, can showcase their talent through a program of required pieces corresponding to their level. All instrumentalists are represented: accordionists, pianists, guitarists, drummers, as well as ensembles and orchestras. This diversity promises the audience a varied musical afternoon, punctuated by very different worlds and often surprising performances.
Beyond the competition, the event is primarily a celebration of amateur music practice. It highlights the work, perseverance, and passion of many young artists, as well as adults who dedicate part of their free time to music. For many candidates, stepping on stage in front of a jury and audience already represents a personal victory and enriching experience.
The expected audience The organizers also want to emphasize how essential the presence of the audience is to encourage the participants. Each performance requires concentration and emotion, and applause is a precious reward for the musicians.
Entry will be free starting from 1:30 p.m.: “Only one rule will be asked of the audience: to maintain silence during the candidates’ performances to allow everyone to perform under the best conditions.”
The award ceremony, scheduled around 5 p.m., will bring an end to this great musical celebration in an atmosphere that promises to be warm and festive.
On May 30th, in Lannemezan, music will be more honored than ever before. A great opportunity to support amateur artists and enjoy a cultural moment accessible to all.
