On May 14, comedian and director Artus presented “Les Caprices de l’enfant roi” by Michel Leclerc on the Croisette, finding himself at the center of criticism and mockery due to his outfit on the red carpet.
A simple outfit was enough to provoke internet users. On May 14, Artus attended the premiere of “Histoires parallèles” by Asghar Farhadi with the team from his latest film, “Les Caprices de l’enfant roi” directed by Michel Leclerc, in which he plays the role of Cyrano de Bergerac. However, the camaraderie of the cast – which also includes Franck Dubosc and Doria Tillier – was quickly overshadowed by the director’s outfit from “Un p’tit truc en plus.”
Artus, who recently made his relationship with Kim Higelin official, arrived on the Cannes red carpet wearing a pleated skirt over his suit pants, a departure from the classic tuxedo usually worn by men at such events. This “homemade” look was designed by his costumer, as he explained to journalist Leslie Benaroch.
While fashion enthusiasts recognized the layering trend – which involves layering multiple clothing layers to create an original and versatile look – some particularly harsh internet users criticized the comedian’s appearance, which did not seem to suit their taste. Tweets like “Artus’ wokification is impressive!” and “Wokism has won, it’s beautiful. We are saved,” were among the comments found by “20 Minutes.”
In response to this wave of criticism, Artus did not hesitate to speak out, as he had done in 2024 when designers refused to dress the actors of “Un p’tit truc en plus” for their Cannes premiere. He remains unafraid to share his thoughts.
“This morning, I read comments on social media, where people can be really mean in their posts, whether it’s about my outfit or something else,” the comedian said in an interview with “Cannorama” for Gala shortly after his appearance. “It’s crazy how sometimes people are so full of hate, what really surprises me are the people who do that. It’s Brigitte, 65 years old, with her poodle in her profile picture saying, ‘Look at the other one, fat and everything!’ And you want to say, ‘Madam, what happened in your life to make you so full of hate?’ Well said.”
