Paris, France, and the world were shaken by the theft that occurred at the Louvre Museum last year. On October 19, 2025, precious jewels were stolen from the Louvre in a matter of minutes. The heist resembled a scene from an action movie and will soon be adapted into a feature film directed by Romain Gavras. The film is based on the actual events and the media frenzy surrounding them, inspired by the investigation “Main basse sur le Louvre” by Jean-Michel Décugis, Jérémie Pham-Lê, and Nicolas-Charles Torrent, set to be published by Flammarion on May 27.

Director Romain Gavras, known for films like “Les Misérables” and “Athena,” has chosen the infamous Louvre heist as the subject for his next film. Working with actors Simon Jacquet and Mourad Winter, the screenplay is expected to hit the screens by 2028, according to reports from the Film Français. Production will be handled by Iconoclast, a collaboration partner of Romain Gavras on previous projects.

The daring theft on October 19, 2025, involved the stealing of nine jewels from the French Crown, including a necklace, tiara, and sapphire set belonging to queens Marie-Amélie and Hortense. The burglary took place in the Louvre’s Apollo Gallery and was executed in a mere seven minutes by organized criminals using specialized tools. Only the crown of Empress Eugénie was recovered thus far, with an estimated value of 88 million euros in stolen jewelry. Security upgrades at the museum are now underway.
