At her table, proud guests surround her: Arnaud, her brother and artistic director, and his beautiful sister Yahima, now her manager. To the first notes of “Everything has changed (Nothing has changed)”, Helena gets up, gracefully weaving between the floral and elegantly set tables for the occasion, and joins the stage.
“I come as I am, without artifice or pretense,” sings the star of the evening, in this gala hall at the Martinez. Despite an event being organized in her honor during the Cannes Film Festival, in one of the chicest and most iconic hotels on the Croisette, the 24-year-old Belgian appears with the same fresh spirit as when she presented herself to the Star Academy audience in 2022. The same natural charm that resonates with her audience, with whom she spontaneously interacts between two songs with meaningful lyrics.
“A performer” invited to the Cannes Film Festival
“Hoodie”, “Summer Body”… Positioned in the center of the room, the rectangular stage allows her to sing for everyone, with generous spirit. Her fans – young women like her, mother-daughter pairs, local families in Cannes – are amused to see her perform up close in this almost intimate setting, like the guests of the “Grand Dinner” who enjoy a gourmet dinner while humming “Mauvais Garçon” – which she will interpret for them a second time in a sublime orchestral version – after their red-carpet entrance in long dresses or suits.
Seated at the table: the recent finalist of “Dancing with the Stars” JujuFitcats, the content creator Disruptive beauté, the actress and influencer Paola Locatelli, the choreographer Jonathan Jenvrin… “It’s amazing that she is here in Cannes. She has become a performer, a great one,” enthuses the dance teacher from the Star Academy.
“In complete intimacy with Helena”
As this is a “Grand Dinner, in complete intimacy with Helena,” according to the event title which promised to be “chic and friendly” at the same time, would Helena Bailly dream of inviting you to her table for a warm meal? “In my wildest dreams, I would like to share a dinner with the singer Adèle, to talk about music, with the actor François Damiens [Belgian, like her] to laugh, and with my parents… because I adore them,” spontaneously responds the former speech therapy student now a multi-award-winning artist, from the NRJ Music Awards to the Victoires de la Musique.
She laughs while confessing to having packed in her Cannes suitcase “twelve pairs of shoes, skincare, makeup, pretty outfits, and yarn for crocheting. Twelve pairs, two feet, that have trodden the legendary steps for the screening of the closed-door film “Karma” by Guillaume Canet, starring Marion Cotillard and presented out of competition. Helena sincerely sings “nothing has changed” but knows that “everything has changed.” And she fully enjoys this new life of filled venues and invitations on the Croisette. A sunny smile on her lips, a sense of wonder in her eyes.
