At the Cannes Festival, Silmo Trends reveals the new 2026 sunglasses inspired by iconic cinema models.

As the Croisette prepares to host the 79th edition of the Cannes Festival from May 12 to 23, the worlds of fashion and cinema are buzzing. In this context, Silmo Paris, the international optical-eyewear event, unveils a selection of sunglasses for 2026 directly inspired by films that have marked generations. More than just an accessory, the glasses become a tribute, a way to adopt a star look, whether to climb the steps or to relax on the beach.

Timeless elegance of the 90s

The cinema of the 90s is full of iconic models whose style continues to influence creators. The unforgettable romantic comedy “Notting Hill” (1999) popularized thin and elegant frames, like those worn by Julia Roberts. For 2026, this aesthetic is revisited by NATAN EYEWEAR with its S59 model (€375) and by MAJE with the MJ5069 reference (€149), two feminine proposals that capture the essence of discreet glamour.

In a bolder register, the “Cat Eye” sunglasses worn by the heroines of “Thelma and Louise” (1991) symbolize freedom and empowerment. This rebellious spirit is found in the Bianca model by LANCEL (reference LA91063, €215) and in a version offered by MAJE (MJ5076229, price not disclosed).

Rebel icons and assertive styles

Some films have elevated glasses to the rank of signature for their characters. This is the case with “Léon” (1994), where Jean Reno’s small round glasses have become inseparable from his role as a hitman. This minimalist and unisex shape is reinterpreted in an accessible way by the brand EIO with its HORTUS model (€95), and in a more luxurious version by MASSADA with the RELATIVE POSITION model (€555).

The provocative style of “Lolita” is also found in the creations of CHRISTIAN LACROIX. The models CL5147102 and CL5147507 (€159 each) play with bold and feminine shapes reminiscent of the film’s iconic frames.

Technicality and performance: the spirit of “Top Gun” and “True Romance”

The aviator style, popularized by “Top Gun,” remains a timeless pillar of eyewear. The brand NYLOR offers two mixed variations for 2026: the Ponte Milvio model in Misty Blue color and the HOHENZOLLERNBRÜCKE in matte black, both priced at €365.

The eccentricity of “True Romance” (1993) also inspires exceptional pieces. The WHITE CIRCLE HYPERION model from MASSADA, priced at €2,397, is a true technological jewel. According to the brand, “the frame is made from a 6mm thick titanium block, cold laminated […] thanks to the application of compression forces exerted by massive 630-ton pressure rollers.” This grade 1 titanium alloy, in Pure Gold color, illustrates revolutionary craftsmanship in service of a radical design.
