On Thursday, May 14th, iconic radio host Sophie Garel passed away at the age of 84. Renowned for hosting “Les jeux de Fabrice avec Sophie,” she began her media career in 1960 and eventually joined Tél Oran’s team. After a brief stint at Europe n°1, she moved to Radio Luxembourg, representing Luxembourg at the 1968 Eurovision Song Contest.
In the 1970s, her career took a significant turn as she ventured into television with animal show “Entre chiens et chats” on Tél-Luxembourg. Garel also hosted gameshows like “Atoukado” on RTL Television and “Les affaires sont les affaires” on Canal+ with longtime collaborator Fabrice Simon-Bessy.
Following her departure from RTL, Garel joined Laurent Ruquier’s team on Europe 1 and France 2 shows. In 2014, she returned to RTL for “Les Grosses Têtes.” Garel was in a relationship with late actor Jean Yanne and is survived by her musician son Thomas, residing in New York.
