Sir Rod Stewart felicitated Prince Charles for putting Trump in his place

The British rock legend Sir Rod Stewart did not mince his words on Monday evening when shaking hands with Charles III at an event in London. The main topic of discussion? Donald Trump, who else?

It’s one of those moments that have the paradoxical gift of being as rewarding personally as they are embarrassing when expressed in a public setting. Imagine, for example, your partner complimenting you on your sexual performance during a family dinner: flattering, indeed, but not really necessary.

This Monday, Charles III found himself in a delicate situation during a concert organized to celebrate the 50th anniversary of “The King’s Trust,” a charity he founded in 1976. The event brought together a host of celebrities, from George Clooney to Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, and British singer Rita Ora. The monarch exchanged a few words with rocker Rod Stewart, who was knighted in 2016.

“I must congratulate you on your performance in America. You were superb, absolutely superb. Put that little thug in his place!” – Rod Stewart to King Charles, referring to Donald Trump

A diplomatic moment delicately captured by Daily Mail journalist Rebecca English amidst the surrounding hubbub:

If Charles smiled faintly, the monarch must have also been a little embarrassed, as he is supposed to carefully refrain from any political commentary. Fortunately, he did not have to make any remarks, as Rod Stewart continued, “Exactly, that’s it – it just went completely over his head, completely!”

Afterwards, the sovereign briefly continued the conversation but, according to The Times present on site, it’s unclear what his response was. The rockstar then turned to Queen Camilla and drove the point home: “I had just congratulated your husband on his wonderful performance in America, so great, so courageous, so proud.”

One thing is certain: Charles III’s talent for winning over Americans while subtly taking jabs at Donald Trump was noted at the end of April.

Efforts that did not go unnoticed by Rod Stewart, whose attitude towards the US president has recently evolved. As reported by the Daily Beast, the singer counted the American billionaire among his friends for years.

“I live barely 800 meters from him. We’re both by the sea. I used to go to his Christmas parties. He has always been a bit macho. That’s why I liked him. But in my opinion, he doesn’t treat women very well. Since he became president, he has become a different man. Someone I don’t know,” continued the 81-year-old singer.

Quizzed on whether he still considers Donald Trump a friend, Rod Stewart retorted: “No, I cannot anymore. As long as he sells weapons to the Israelis – and he still does. How will this war ever end?”
