After the brutal death of his daughter Katherine on February 23, Martin Short spoke for the first time about this tragic event on the set of “CBS Sunday Morning.” Nearly three months after the tragic loss of his daughter, he decided to break his silence. The actor revealed in March his documentary aired on Netflix, “Marty, Life Is Short,” dedicated to his daughter, Katherine. The 42-year-old woman, adopted by the actor and his late wife Nancy Dolman, took her own life on February 23. During an interview on Sunday, May 10, for the show “CBS Sunday Morning,” the star of “Only Murders in the Building” expressed himself for the first time on this matter. “It’s been a real nightmare for the family,” he said, emphasizing that Katherine had fragile mental health. He explained that his daughter had been battling “serious mental health issues for a long time,” such as “borderline personality disorder.” “She did her best until she couldn’t anymore,” he added.

A representative of the actor announced Katherine’s death the day after her lifeless body was found. “It is with deep sadness that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss and requests respect for their privacy. Katherine was loved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought to the world,” the representative declared. According to TMZ, Katherine was found dead from self-inflicted gunshot wounds at her Los Angeles home on Monday, April 23. The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed receiving a 911 call reporting gunshots at 6:41 pm.

This is not the first tragedy to affect Martin Short and his family. When the actor was 12 years old, his brother David passed away in a serious car accident. Martin Short later lost his mother to cancer when he was 17 years old, and two years later, his father succumbed to a stroke. “It allowed me to develop a capacity to survive, to deal with grief, and to take a step back from it,” he explained on “CBS Sunday Morning,” adding that these trials also gave him the courage to step on stage and become an actor.
