On the set of the TF1 8pm news this Sunday, May 10, the American actress expressed her deep attachment to France and its way of life, a memory from her teenage years on the Côte d’Azur.

Between Sigourney Weaver and France, the story has lasted for over sixty years. Invited to the TF1 8pm news this Sunday, May 10, on the occasion of the release of the movie “The Mandalorian and Grogu”, the American actress surprised viewers by speaking in almost perfect French. Facing Anne-Claire Coudray, she did not hide her admiration for France: “It’s so awesome to be French,” she declared.

This attachment has its roots in her adolescence. At the age of 11, Sigourney Weaver’s family moved to Beaulieu-sur-Mer, on the Côte d’Azur, for two years. It was there that she discovered French culture for the first time. “I was stunned by France: the people, the market, the food, the life, the beauty,” she recalls. This way of life deeply marked her and she never forgot it. “I love the idea that the French are aware of how important it is to protect what they love the most: cinema, fashion, gastronomy. You teach it in schools,” said the interpreter of Ellen Ripley in “Alien.”

Highly sensitive to the bonds that unite France and the United States, the septuagenarian also mentioned the current political context marked by tensions with Iran. “We have a lot to do to make America fairer again,” she said. “It’s a huge challenge, but the idea of having the support of the French, your democracy, and your way of life… I believe that would be a really valuable help for Americans.” In December 2025, during the promotion of the latest installment of Avatar, she had already “apologized (for her) actions” on behalf of all Americans.
