Today is Mother’s Day. For the occasion, here is a (non-exhaustive) list of the best films filled with maternal love to watch with your mom.

Would you like a family movie session for this Mother’s Day Sunday? We have put together a list of the best ones to watch for the occasion.

Chocolat

How can we not think of “Chocolat” (2000) right from the start, with Juliette Binoche in the role of an unconventional mother. This modern tale, revolving around homemade chocolate, goes beyond a simple romantic story. Behind a carefully crafted (and chocolatey) setting, a dream cast (including a young and ardent Johnny Depp) hides a message of freedom, tolerance, and humanity.

The Wild Robot

“The Wild Robot” (2024), an animated film by DreamWorks, may seem like many other films of its kind at first glance. However, it proves to be much deeper, beautifully addressing the theme of maternal love. Tip: have your tissues handy!

The Life List

“The Life List” (2025), or “Demain viendra un nouveau ciel” in French, tells the touching story of a mother who writes a list of things for her daughter to accomplish before leaving this world. The young woman discovers, through this journey, family secrets, love, and a new version of herself. A truly touching and funny coming-of-age story on the small screen (Netflix, specifically).

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy

In “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” (2025), the latest installment of the famous 2000s saga, now back on our screens, Bridget appears more than ever as an imperfect, clumsy, and first and foremost devoted mother to herself.

Becoming a widow and a single mother, she tries as best as she can to maintain a family balance amidst the chaos of her daily life. Her children grow up in a world far from the classic family model, punctuated by unforeseen events, humor, and sometimes questionable romantic encounters of their mother. Behind its light tone, the film mainly tells with tenderness the mourning of a family after the loss of a husband and father. Between moving scenes and genuinely funny moments, it manages to balance sadness and lightness.

Mamma Mia!

It is impossible to make a list of Mother’s Day films without mentioning “Mamma Mia!” (2008), it would be a crime. A timeless classic that has not lost any of its charm. The mother-daughter relationship is particularly touching, and the soundtrack is timeless!
