Good news for music lovers, as the Music Day returns to Paris and everywhere else on June 21, 2026! Just a reminder: the first Music Day was launched in 1982 at the initiative of the Ministry of Culture. This year, the Ministry of Culture’s research department is conducting a major survey on the cultural practices of the French. It reveals that five million people, including one in every two young people, play a musical instrument.

Thus, Jack Lang, Christian Dupavillon, architect-scenographer, a member of his Cabinet, and Maurice Fleuret envisioned a large popular event with the aim of allowing all musicians to express themselves and be known. The very first Music Day was launched on June 21, 1982, the symbolic day of the summer solstice.

This year, for the new edition of the Music Day, the Place de la Bastille in Paris offers the public an unusual concert of Japanese drums. Specifically, it will take place on the median of Boulevard Richard-Lenoir on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 3pm to 4pm, to discover this Japanese drum spectacle. Relatively unknown in France, this musical practice exudes powerful energy, both visually and audibly.

This original and powerful concert will be performed by the Tsunagari Taiko Center, and is expected to last an hour, so don’t be late. It’s a chance for the students of this somewhat special music school to share their passion, joy, and dynamism.

For the public, both young and old, this unique instrument invites unquestionably to a journey through the pieces played by the students. So, ready to embark on a journey to Japan? See you on June 21, 2026, on the side of Place de la Bastille in Paris to resonate and dance to the rhythm of the Japanese drums and celebrate the new edition of the Music Day in an original way.
