Why is the famous Met Gala causing controversy this year?
Just hours before the prestigious event, the American edition of The Sun and L’Officiel have revealed a list of celebrities who are certain not to be on the red carpet tonight. The first among them is none other than Donald Trump. The American president is in fact the only “official” name on this list. While he has often attended the Met Gala before entering the White House, Melania’s husband now presents too many divergent opinions with the fashion icon, as she has publicly indicated.
Rapper Nicki Minaj would also be on this list, generally for similar reasons as Donald Trump. The singer of “Starships” has recently shown her support for the president, which did not sit well with Anna Wintour. Surprisingly, Tim Gunn, an influential figure in the fashion industry in the United States, would also be sidelined. The former judge of the show “Project Runway” would have had disagreements with the former Vogue chief, and would have publicly criticized her.
Actress Lili Reinhart, known for her role in the series Riverdale, was invited a few years ago. The young woman was ousted due to her stance on Kim Kardashian’s drastic weight loss to fit into her historic dress. Making a comeback in the fashion world, stylist Rachel Zoe is also “avoided” by Anna Wintour. The fifty-year-old once dared to say that she was more influential than the Vogue editor-in-chief, which earned her the lack of invitation. Tina Fey, Amy Schumer, and Zayn Malik also reportedly lost their chance to attend the event after publicly criticizing it.
