CasaEuropea, a cultural center of shared resources located near Bournac, is hosting a musical performance this Sunday, May 3rd, at 6:30 p.m. on the theme of Christian humor in baroque music. The performance will be given by Albertin Ventadour (viola da gamba and haute-contre singing) with the participation of mezzo-soprano Anette Cyran on some pieces. Albertin Ventadour has already performed multiple times at CasaEuropea and at the Maison des Échevins in Vabres-l’Abbaye. Albertin Ventadour resides in Lodève, Hérault. He has pursued extensive studies in theology and philosophy: “I came to music later in life and found it to be a more complete way to express my interest in Christian thought. Most baroque composers were devout Christians. Christian humor is rarely discussed. Humor allows us to quickly shift from a negative mood to a positive one.” Albertin Ventadour has explored various types of humor (English, Jewish, Chinese): “I have given humorous lectures on these themes. Christian humor must be sought out. It is often subtle, existing between the lines. It can be whimsical. However, despite its entertaining nature, it is not widely accepted in institutions due to its irreverent and disruptive character.” Albertin Ventadour will perform pieces of baroque music: “I will introduce the piece and then perform it. Simply put, I will draw parallels between baroque songs and biblical texts to highlight their sometimes humorous aspects.” The program will include works by five or six composers, including Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Claudio Monteverdi, and George Frideric Handel. Albertin Ventadour will occasionally invite the audience to sing along, particularly with Handel’s famous song Lascia la spina: “It is a very special song. I sing it with the audience. It means ‘leave the thorns and pick the rose.’ A statement attributed to Jesus. You spend your time seeking pain.” Reservations via SMS at 06 82 83 48 92. Free admission but reservations required. The performance will be followed by a friendly gathering.
