From July 25 to August 2, ancient music will resonate at the doors of Angers. The association Le Roseau chantant is organizing a summer academy unlike any other, located in Longuenée-en-Anjou, providing an ideal setting for artistic immersion.

Behind this initiative are two artists: Julie Petit, a violist and luthier, and Nicolas Rosenfeld, a flutist and bassoonist. Their common desire to transmit ancient music led them, in 2020, to create a stage combining baroque music and theater.

Since 2024, the academy has been structured around a team of professional musicians, bringing together around thirty high-level participants each year, including teenagers and adults, whether amateur enthusiasts or future professionals.

For eight days, participants immerse themselves in a demanding yet supportive artistic environment. The stage aims to be a space for musical progression as well as a meeting place.

“We are very attentive to the well-being of all our participants, creating an atmosphere of conviviality, listening, and kindness,” emphasizes the artistic team.

“Witches and Fairies”, between Purcell and Shakespeare

This new edition explores a poetic and theatrical theme: “Witches and Fairies!”. The world of dreams and wonder will be the common thread throughout the workshops and creations.

Two major figures of English heritage will be at the heart of the work: the composer Henry Purcell and the writer William Shakespeare. However, the organizers aim to broaden the scope by also exploring lesser-known composers.

A public final performance in a rarely accessible castle

The highlight of the week is a final performance open to the public, free of charge, on Saturday, August 1st. It will bring together participants and teachers for a collective creation.

The performance will take place in the unique setting of the Château de la Thibaudière, a location usually closed to the public, offering an ideal backdrop for this baroque immersion.
