New York offers a remarkably diverse French program this week, featuring a mix of classics, new releases, and a short film festival.

The most anticipated film is “L’Étranger” by François Ozon, released on April 3. It continues to play at the Angelika Film Center and the Film at Lincoln Center, receiving excellent reviews on both sides of the Atlantic. This is the major French film of spring 2026 in New York.

At Alliance New York, the Sophie Letourneur retrospective continues with the NY Premiere of “Voyages en Italie” on Tuesday, April 28, introduced by the director herself.

Metrograph is showcasing French cinema all week, including screenings of “La Double Vie de Véronique” by Kieślowski, “Made in U.S.A.” by Godard in 35mm, “Let the Sunshine In” by Claire Denis, and “Fantastic Planet” by René Laloux in 35mm – a journey through French cinema from the 1960s to today.

The ReelAbilities festival aims to highlight the lives, stories, and artistic expressions of people with disabilities. In its 18th edition from April 23-30, 2026, the film “My Everything” directed by Anne-Sophie Bailly, featuring Laure Calamy in one of her strongest roles, will be shown on Sunday, April 26 at the JCC Manhattan.

Lastly, the 10th Francophone Short Films Festival in Harlem (April 24-29) will take place at four New York venues – Maysles, Maison Française NYU, Columbia, and Lycée Français – featuring short films by French directors Alice Diop and Michel Ocelot, all accessible at a low cost or for free.
