From April 24 to 26, the De Lumley cultural space will host the 25th edition of the Tautavel music festival. Pianist and artistic co-director Nathanaël Gouin explains this amazing musical journey.

Driven by his passion for music since he was three years old, professional pianist and composer for about twenty years, Nathanaël Gouin makes his keyboard sound like a stringed instrument. “I want people to forget that the piano has hammers. It’s about playing harmony with this instrument of endless possibilities”.

Co-directing the festival with Raphaël Sévère since 2024, the musician aims to break the codes of classical music, sometimes perceived as elitist by the general public. Founded twenty-five years ago by the famous Capuçon brothers, while retaining its DNA, the festival is experiencing a new breath. With a “Let’s rock” event on Sunday at 4:30 PM, blending modern styles with classical instruments. “The goal of this evening is to erase boundaries to create true musical connections”. While maintaining its spirit of unity and conviviality, the event aims to introduce these music genres to non-initiates. “Music is a language that doesn’t require knowledge of grammar to appreciate it”, says Nathanaël Gouin. Beyond musical excellence, the festival strives to maintain a profoundly human dimension. Here, people come to listen to the biggest names in the current classical scene. Spectators also have the opportunity to meet them during a walking concert or over a traditional glass of friendship. “The idea is to be part of the same adventure”.
