On April 23, 2018, Prince Louis, the youngest child of Kate Middleton and Prince William, turned 8 on Thursday. Known for his mischief and funny faces at official events, the youngest sibling has grown up and seems to have calmed down, as evidenced by his latest public appearance at Easter mass.
To celebrate this birthday, Kensington Palace released several new photos and videos of Prince Louis, including a portrait where he looks strikingly similar to his father at the same age.
A video posted on the Instagram account of the Prince and Princess of Wales shows Prince Louis during the Easter holidays that he and his family spent in Cornwall. The young prince is seen having fun building a sandcastle and playing beach tennis. Another unseen photo taken by photographer Matt Porteous, showing him with his back to the sea, arms crossed, and hair swept by the wind, was also published.
This photo seems to have brought back memories to fans of the British royal family, as many of them noticed a striking resemblance with a photo of Prince William, at the age of 8, taken in 1990 during a family vacation in Majorca, Spain, with King Charles III, Princess Diana, and former King of Spain Juan Carlos. The resemblance is uncanny, from the same brown hair falling over their eyes, to the same smile, and slightly squinted eyes.
This is not the first time the resemblance between Prince William and Prince Louis has been noticed. Several internet users had previously pointed out similarities between a photo of the young prince on his 7th birthday and a photo of the future British king taken at a polo match on June 16, 1990. Both photos were compared in an article published on Daily Mail’s website on April 23, 2026.
Known for his mischievous behavior, Prince Louis seems to have toned down his antics and appeared very well-behaved at the recent Easter mass held at St. George’s Chapel on April 5, 2026. He stood quietly beside his parents and shyly greeted fans gathered outside the chapel. “Young Prince Louis is learning very well,” commented a source quoted by Daily Mail.
