Laurent Voulzy has long told his life through songs, but this time, he has chosen to put words on paper in a book. Laurent Voulzy publishes his autobiography, “Caché derrière”, on Thursday, April 23. In this book, he opens up about his wounds, friendships, relationships, and family. In an interview with Paris Match, Voulzy reflects on his role as a father, acknowledging the times he was absent. Despite his musical success, Voulzy reveals a more nuanced family reality.
Voulzy’s four sons recently shared a moment of complicity with him by performing “Le soleil donne”. However, his relationship with his two sons from his first marriage, Julien and Nicolas, was not always peaceful. Voulzy admits that fame impacted his family life, causing him to be an absent father at times. With his other sons, Cliff and Quentin, born from different relationships, Voulzy’s bond was forged later in life. The book recounts his journey from childhood to his enduring partnership with Alain Souchon in creating French music classics.
For the first time, Voulzy reveals to Paris Match that he battled prostate cancer in 2016, keeping it a secret. He underwent treatment in England, choosing to share this experience now to show that there is hope. “Caché derrière” promises to be a deeply personal testimony where Voulzy goes beyond the public image of the singer we thought we knew.
