Gaëtan Roussel, a prominent figure in the band Louise Attaque revealed in the 1990s, has been pursuing a rich and diverse career for several years. From solo projects to experiences in radio, television, and even film, where he appeared in the movie “Le Fil” by Daniel Auteuil released in 2024, the 53-year-old artist has continually reinvented himself. In an interview with Le Monde on Sunday, April 19, he also opened up about a much more personal period. The year 2024 was particularly challenging for him, marked by the sudden death of his father, who passed away from cancer at the age of 70.
In the interview with Le Monde, Gaëtan Roussel delicately discusses the harshness of this loss. “I’m not one to share much about my life. My dad was young, he was 70 years old. It’s someone I spoke to at 5 p.m. and whom I will never be able to talk to again,” he shared. A sudden disappearance that happened overnight, as 2024 was already a year marked by a different ordeal.
Acknowledging that “there’s no preparation for that,” Roussel, who joined the Enfoirés in 2024, recounts this time when death and illness collided. At the time of his father’s passing, he was indeed fighting cancer.
His songs “Nos blessures” and “Mes prières” reflect on this particularly painful year marked by unexpected death and illness.
Additionally, the singer also shared about his tumultuous childhood spent moving around France during the first ten years of his life due to his father’s changing professions. A math teacher turned middle school principal, his father regularly changed schools, requiring his son to continually adapt to new environments and form often transient connections.
The absence of this significant figure in his life resonates even more powerfully as it occurred during a challenging year for the singer himself, while he was battling illness.
