John Healey returned from Estonia on Thursday, where he met with British troops deployed in the country. “The satellite signal from his government plane was interrupted,” said Sunday’s edition of The Times, whose journalist was aboard the aircraft.
The Royal Air Force plane carrying British Defense Minister John Healey experienced GPS signal jamming during a flight near the Russian border this week, according to The Times.
As he returned from Estonia on Thursday, where he was meeting with deployed British troops, “the satellite signal from his government plane was interrupted,” the newspaper reported, with a journalist on board the aircraft.
Phones and computers were unable to connect to the internet, and pilots had to use alternative methods to determine the aircraft’s location during the three-hour flight.
According to the report, Russia is suspected to be behind this incident, which is not the first of its kind.
In 2024, the plane carrying the defense minister of the conservative government at the time, Grant Shapps, from Poland also experienced GPS signal jamming near the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad.
Downing Street stated that this type of jamming is not unusual near the Russian enclave, and the British Ministry of Defense declined to comment.
