Consultant for Canal +, former French international Samir Nasri showed more than enthusiasm when it comes to a possible future on the bench of the Algerian national team as a coach.

What if Samir Nasri became the coach of Algeria in the future? For now, the former midfielder of Marseille and Arsenal is a consultant on Canal+ (during Champions League evenings), but he has not closed the door on a future as the coach of Algeria. With parents of Algerian origin born in France, the native of Marseille holds dual French-Algerian nationality, even though he chose to play for France (41 caps with the Blues for 5 goals scored).

“Once you know your country and see your roots, the approach is different”

Invited to rapper K-mel’s podcast “Respect”, Samir Nasri was asked about a future on the Fennecs’ bench, and he showed himself to be more than open to it in case of solicitation from the Algerian Football Federation (FAF): “I would go running. Why? Because it’s not the same, my relationship with Algeria has changed. When I was young, my whole family was there, I didn’t travel to Algeria. Once you know your country and see your roots, the approach is different. Your relationship with your country is no longer the same.”

“We may not have been appreciated at our true value here”

In the same podcast, Samir Nasri took the opportunity to advise young bi-nationals: “If I have to give advice to a young player who hesitates between France and his country of origin, I would tell him to use our example. Maybe we have not been appreciated at our true value here (in France). Maybe in the country of your ancestors, it will be different, you will be respected.”
