The football field at Val de Lenne & Baraqueville is set to come alive with barks and cheers. On May 23 and 24, the Cani-Sport association of Ségala is organizing its annual event, with a new addition this year that will interest dog sports enthusiasts.

While Sunday will be dedicated to the regional agility competition (registration is closed), Saturday will mark a turning point with the very first hoopers competition organized in Baraqueville. Often described as a variant of agility, hoopers emphasizes the physical integrity of the animal. In this sport, no jumps are required to protect the dog’s joints.

The course consists of four types of obstacles: hoops, wide tunnels for easy passage, barrels to navigate around, and trellises to guide the trajectory. The challenge lies in handling the dog from a distance: the handler remains in a limited area and directs the dog solely through voice and gesture.

The goal is not pure speed, but rather flawless execution of commands. Hoopers is a sport suitable for a wide range of dogs, including seniors, large breeds, or less agile dogs, allowing them to participate in competition while strengthening the bond with their owner. It is also a discipline accessible to drivers with reduced mobility or seniors. The club relies on the expertise of three certified instructors to oversee this practice.

The public can attend these events on Saturday, May 23 (hoopers) and Sunday, May 24 (agility) starting at 9 am at the football field of Val de Lenne. Entry is free, with refreshments and food available on-site. There are still a few spots available for the hoopers competition. For more information, contact 06 95 70 78 47.
