The Professional Football League’s disciplinary committee announced on Monday the start of an inquiry regarding Nantes supporters invading the pitch at Beaujoire on Sunday.

Published on May 18, 2026 at 5:42 pm, updated on the same day at 6:26 pm, the incident occurred during the last match of the season at Beaujoire Louis Fonteneau Stadium in Nantes on May 17, 2026.

Relegated to League 2 after the 2025-2026 season, FC Nantes faces disciplinary action from the LFP after the pitch invasion during the last Ligue 1 match that led to the game’s definitive halt on May 17. The disciplinary commission will decide on May 27 and has summoned Nice on May 20.

During the match between Nantes and Toulouse, Nantes supporters from Tribune Loire stormed the pitch with smoke bombs. Referee Stéphanie Frappart immediately sent both teams to the locker rooms and later announced the end of the game due to safety concerns.

Vahid Halilhodzic, Nantes’ coach, confronted approaching supporters before being restrained by security personnel. After intervention from CRS, the situation calmed down with minor scuffles.

Incidents at the Nice game will also be reviewed promptly to ensure the smooth conduct of competitions. Nice faces Saint-Étienne in playoff matches to avoid relegation and may have to play without part or all of their supporters.

Following the Nice-Metz match, violent clashes erupted as fans from the south stand invaded the pitch, leading to property damage before being dispersed by law enforcement.
