The National Center for Cinema and Animated Image (CNC) in France is set to change its rules to protect creativity from artificial intelligence (AI), announced Minister of Culture, Catherine Pégard. “Creativity is not reuse, it is an act of innovation, which often thrives on confrontation and breaking with old forms,” she stated at a meeting with French cinema industry players during the Cannes Film Festival.
“Illed thers. Creation human respect,” she added.
The CNC will soon modify its regulations to ensure the support of human creation. The minister emphasized that the CNC will not support works lacking an author and only human interpretation will be supported for dubbing.
For the seventy-year-old Minister, the goal is not to ban the use of AI in works, but to prevent AI from replacing creators. She highlighted the importance of human creation in sharing value and protecting jobs.
With an annual budget of over 800 million euros, the CNC significantly contributes to funding the film industry and the audiovisual sector in France.
In France, broadcasters are required to allocate a portion of their revenue to finance national productions.
