The Anduze room was packed on Tuesday, May 12, for the municipal council, marked by a particularly tense atmosphere between the majority and the opposition.
Several lively exchanges punctuated the session, notably around a press release distributed by opposition elected officials.
Une situation financière qui inquiète l’opposition
The mayor, Laurent Jaoul, took the floor to respond to certain assertions: “You assert that in 2027, the municipality will no longer be able to function without a massive increase in taxes or intervention from the state.”
Frédérique Réa, elected member of the opposition, spoke on the financial situation of the municipality: “You affirm that the municipality, in 2010, had a deficit of €230,128. However, the Regional Court of Auditors indicates a surplus of €321,220 in operations and €222,254 in investment. The report is public.”
In response, the mayor maintained his position: “I will publish the documents proving a deficit of €144,460 in investment and €85,000 in operations, for a total of €230,128. The municipality will not be drowned in debt and taxes will not increase.”
Frédérique Réa a insisté : “Finances remain precarious and a drastic reduction in spending will be necessary to balance the budget.”
Laurent Jaoul concluded firmly: “There will be no reduction in spending. The budget has been planned for the entire term thanks to rigorous and transparent management.”
After these debates, the municipal council continued its agenda with the election, by secret ballot, of the members of the tender commission (CAO) and the CCAS board of directors. The majority obtained four seats out of five in the CAO and six seats out of eight in the CCAS, while the opposition won one and two seats respectively.
Elected officials also validated the creation of seven municipal commissions: finance, town planning and land law, culture, bullfighting events, sports and community life, school affairs and works. Each will be made up of eight members, with seven representatives from the majority and one from the opposition.
