Uncertainty around Habib Beye’s future at Olympique de Marseille
A new chapter is unfolding at Olympique de Marseille. After the official appointment of Stéphane Richard as president, the Phocéen club is also preparing to reshape its sports organization with the expected arrival of a new sporting director. The changes could also involve the Marseille bench.
Despite a contract running until 2027, the future of Habib Beye remains unclear. Arriving mid-season, the coach may not continue the adventure on the Canebière, leading the Olympian leaders to explore several options to succeed him.
The Renard option
As speculation around the future coach intensifies, OM remains focused on securing its qualification for the Europa League when facing Stade Rennais on Sunday evening.
Among the profiles mentioned, Christophe Galtier stands out to part of the Marseille entourage due to his local connections and knowledge of the Olympian environment. Bruno Genesio is also among the potential candidates, while his future at Lille appears increasingly uncertain.
However, on the set of “L’Équipe de Greg,” Yoann Riou expressed his reservations regarding the Genesio option: “Genesio, can it match with OM? I would say no. Genesio is a very good coach, but here, it’s a matter of character. When you are in Marseille, you really have to suffer, you have to fight. And honestly, we want Genesio’s happiness, he needs a framework.”
The commentator notably compared this situation to Marcelino’s, whose time at Marseille quickly turned sour despite a recognized CV: “I remember Marcelino, a Spanish coach who proved himself. With Villarreal, he qualified for the Champions League. Marcelino had everything, the CV, except in terms of character, he was eaten up by OM. I don’t see the marriage happening.”
Instead, Yoann Riou suggested another idea: Hervé Renard. “Obviously, he is a great coach, but I bring my name: Hervé Renard. He is a man of challenge, who has proven himself on the national team. He has a point to prove at the club. The union with OM, they have sniffed around each other a few times, he loves the region, he won the Africa Cup of Nations twice,” he concluded.
