After sixteen years of absence from the elite, Le Mans FC is back in Ligue 1 after a historic season. On this occasion, France 3 Pays de la Loire offers a special program to give supporters a behind-the-scenes look at the atmosphere of an evening engraved in the club’s history.
It’s been sixteen years that the people of Le Mans have been waiting for this, and now it’s finally happened: Le Mans FC is officially back in Ligue 1. A consecration for the club from Sarthe, following an exceptional season led by coach Patrick Videira.
The fate seemed almost sealed this Saturday, May 9, the 34th and final day of Ligue 2, facing a Bastia team playing at home. But as Le Mans FC led 2-0 seconds before the final whistle, the match was interrupted after smoke bombs and firecrackers were thrown onto the field, before being definitively stopped by the referee.
It wasn’t until Wednesday, May 12, that the LFP disciplinary committee’s decision confirmed the return of the Le Mans club to the elite.
Between 20,000 and 25,000 people are expected at the Marie-Marvingt stadium to attend the celebration event this Wednesday, May 12th. To bring this event to life for the supporters, Ici Pays de la Loire offers a special program at 7:05 pm live. An evening dedicated to this “Night of the Promotion”, with reactions, live connections, celebrations, and the atmosphere at the heart of the fervor in Le Mans.
To animate this program, Emmanuel Faure will welcome:
- Alain Pascalou, former striker of the club from 1969 to 1978, ex-technical director and former assistant coach
- Didier Esor, president of the Pays de la Loire Football League.
Our journalists will be on the sidelines to gather reactions from the players and staff of the Le Mans FC team. They will follow the team throughout their journey, from their reception at City Hall to the players’ arrival in the stadium’s backstage. Our teams will also be present in the square and in the stands to bring to life the atmosphere and fervor of the supporters throughout this historic evening.
