The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival was officially launched with an opening ceremony featuring red carpet, impactful speeches, and celebration of popular cinema. Hosted by the Franco-Malian actress Eye Haïdara, the evening saw appearances by Jane Fonda and Gong Li, highlighting the power of cinema in a world marked by crises and political tensions.
In this special episode of “À l’Affiche” live from the Croisette, Louise Dupont discusses the highlights of the opening with our film critic Albéric de Gouville: the honorary Palme d’Or presented to Peter Jackson by Elijah Wood, the atmosphere of the first red carpet walks, and the major trends of this 2026 edition.
The focus is also on “La Vénus électrique” by Pierre Salvadori, the opening film starring Anaïs Demoustier, Pio Marmaï, and Gilles Lellouche, as well as the stars expected at Cannes this year, from Scarlett Johansson to John Travolta, who came to present his directorial debut.
