Celebrities are increasingly becoming the targets of home invasions, where burglaries take place in the presence of the occupants of a house or apartment. On Monday, May 11, comedian Michaël Youn fell victim to this trend. Should stars be more discreet about their private lives to avoid becoming victims?

Would burglarizing celebrities inspire criminals more and more? This may be the case for the two masked men who broke into actor Michaël Youn’s residence with his partner Isabelle Funaro on Monday, May 11, near Aix-en-Provence. The two burglars entered the house at 8 a.m., one of them armed with a rifle, and left with a significant haul: jewelry and money. The couple’s children were present at the time of the incident, but no one was physically harmed, as reported by ICI Provence.

Prior to the French actor, numerous personalities have fallen victim to home invasions. In June 2025, television presenter Christophe Beaugrand experienced a similar ordeal. Two years before him, radio host Bruno Guillon had a traumatic experience when five individuals between the ages of 19 and 35 stormed into his home in the middle of the night. Even athletes are not spared from this phenomenon. The house of former PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was burglarized one night in July 2023, resulting in an estimated loss of 500,000 euros, as recalled by L’Equipe.

Celebrities Victims of Their Success

One of the most sensational home invasions might be the one that initiated this dreadful trend, particularly in the French capital, involving the hotel room where Kim Kardashian was staying. During Paris Fashion Week in 2016, the “grandpa robbers” left with nine million euros worth of loot in a ten-minute heist. The American star was held captive overnight by the criminals.

While these cited celebrities obviously do not have the same approach to sharing their private lives, particularly on social media, they all remain public figures. In the collective imagination, and probably rightly so, they are all suspected of making a good living and therefore likely to own jewelry, watches, or any other items of value that would interest burglars. And if these celebrities happen to share their active lives in videos, showcasing their busy schedules, criminals may even think it’s easy to break into a home in their absence!
