Donald Trump advocates for the expansion of the United States
Donald Trump is adamant about the expansion of the United States. Since the beginning of his term, he has been putting pressure on sovereign countries or autonomous territories to achieve this goal. He continued this approach on Tuesday.
On his Truth Social platform, he posted a drawing showing Venezuela in the colors of the United States with the caption “51st State.” The White House occupant regularly boasts about controlling this country in Latin America, after capturing ousted president Nicolas Maduro on January 3rd.
Caracas emphasizes Venezuela’s independence
The American president, who has repeatedly threatened to make Canada the “51st American state” during his term, is now directing his ambitions towards Venezuela. In March, he had already published a message mentioning this possibility: “Good things are happening in Venezuela lately […] 51st state, anyone?”
The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, denied this possibility on Monday, stating that it had “never been considered,” because if there is one thing that we, Venezuelans, love, it is our independence process, we love our heroes and heroines.” She added that her government was working on “a diplomatic cooperation agenda” with the United States, after restoring diplomatic relations with Washington in March, severed by Nicolas Maduro seven years ago.
