British singer Dua Lipa has sued South Korean electronics manufacturer Samsung in a California court for allegedly using her image without permission on television packaging.

The artist is seeking at least $15 million in damages and interest, according to court documents filed on May 8 in a federal court in Los Angeles and seen by AFP.

The disputed photo was taken backstage at the 2024 Austin City Limits festival where Dua Lipa performed. It is registered in her name.

The singer’s lawyers, who are also co-authors of hits like “Levitating” and “Don’t Start Now,” argue that Samsung never sought permission to use the specific image.

In June 2025, Dua Lipa requested Samsung to stop using her image on the packaging of some televisions, but without success.

According to the singer’s lawyers, the South Korean company continues to sell products in the United States with packaging that includes this photo.

Contacted by AFP, Samsung stated that the image was provided by a content provider for their free streaming service Samsung TV Plus, with assurances of having obtained necessary permissions.

The South Korean company denies any wrongdoing and expresses willingness to engage in constructive discussions with Ms. Lipa’s team.

The artist, whose parents are from the Albanian community in Kosovo, references several social media posts from fans claiming they bought a Samsung television because her photo was on the packaging.

“Ms. Lipa is very selective about her commercial partnerships and has cultivated a high-end image by carefully choosing prestigious sponsors,” her lawyers emphasize.

Therefore, they assert that even if given the opportunity, the singer “would not have wanted to associate her name and image with the products in question.”
