No attendance record for the cinema l’Entracte in Falaise (Calvados) but a 17.20% decrease for the year 2025. “That’s 6,065 fewer entries for a lineup of 283 films, including 180 Art and Experimental films and 937 screenings,” announced Carole Laidet, the newly elected president, during the general assembly of the Entract’Animations association on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. The reasons? “We didn’t have any blockbuster films, and the weather didn’t help; it didn’t rain enough.” However, it’s worth noting 1,500 entries for the youth film “Zootopia,” followed by “The Bodin’s on a Spin” with 894 entries, “Lilo & Stitch” with 788 entries, “God save the Tuche” with 748 entries, and “Paddington in Peru” with 552 entries.

Programming and Events: The cinema l’Entracte is a magnificent tool whose sole purpose is to make cinematographic culture accessible to all residents of the Pays de Falaise. “Culture is about being curious, uniting, being free, transmitting, discovering other universes, reflecting, and marveling. Culture awakens the senses, brings people together, and fosters debate.” – Carole Laidet, President of the Entract’Animations association.

“And to do this, the doors of the cinema are open to both hearing and hearing-impaired individuals, people with reduced mobility, nursing homes, schools, colleges, high schools, associations, or institutions with a project to defend and broadcast on the big screen.” “It is important that this room maintains its educational function with schools.” Thus, 4,965 students, from preschoolers to high school students, attended sessions throughout the year “as part of a cinema and image education policy.”

The volunteer team: Part of a programming agreement with the Lux cinema in Caen (including Ouistreham, Douvres-la-Délivrande, …), l’Entracte offers several films per week, half of which are in Art and Experimental cinema. This allows the Falaise cinema to have national release films, premieres, surprise heartthrob movies, fun film screenings for children, classics on the big screen, senior films, and participation in national events such as the Spring of Cinema, Cinema Festival, or the Judicial Film Festival.

Also, new experiences like the meeting with actor Jacques Gamblin in January, the live cinema concert of young rapper Hug* in July. A film lineup and events that are possible “thanks to a team of 18 volunteers and 3 employees who work hard to animate the cinema, beyond just programming.” The association’s auditor, Kévin Dewaele, highlighted the volunteer work: “3,892 hours at 18.77 euros, totaling non-reimbursed expenses for the association of 73,053 euros.”

Surprises Announced: This year, the cinema l’Entracte will celebrate its 35th anniversary, and surprises are announced throughout the coming months. Meanwhile, a FAQ section is set up for residents: how does a community cinema work? How many volunteers or employees are there? What would be the interest of having multiple cinema rooms in Falaise? You have until May 17 to send your questions by email to [email protected] or in a small urn placed in the cinema lobby.
