In a season that may seem long due to limited stakes, Reims Volley 51 (ensuring the 8th place) plays until the end. In their last away game of the season this Friday evening, which counted for the penultimate day of Ligue B, the Reims team overturned Cambrai, whose sole aim was to secure their place in a trivial top 5. In these conditions, both teams offered an enjoyable spectacle. Without pressure, the team from Reims, who started the game poorly, improved in the middle of the match before feeling the effects of their efforts. But they showed that they may have deserved a slightly better position than an 8th place finish. Now, they face their final challenge, at home on Friday, against the league leader Royan.

LE MATCH
At Cambrai, it was not about making too many mistakes against a higher-ranked team that aimed to finish well in front of their fans by securing a place in the Ligue B’s top 5. The mission was accomplished for the Northerners, but Reims put up a good fight. Less consistent, the Reims team quickly fell behind. So much so that the Northerners quickly took the lead, without letting go, and therefore won the first set without suspense. The following sets were more fiercely contested. Even though Reims was still dominated in the 2nd set, they pushed Cambrai to work hard, saving 3 set points.
Trailing 2-0, Alexis Farjaudon’s team continued to gain momentum. In a 3rd set where both teams traded blows, Reims accelerated towards the end of the set (19-19 then 20-25). Revitalized, Reims Volley 51 had a good run by Amine Oumessad in the service in the middle of the set to take the lead (13-14 then 16-22). Sufficient to force a tie-break despite a small scare when closing. All the effort the Reims team put in came at a cost in the tie-break. Quickly distanced, Yohan Leray’s teammates, once again valuable on Friday, eventually suffered a defeat.
