The United States struck “military installations” in several Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz on the night of Thursday, May 7 to Friday, May 8, 2026, confirmed the American army, after three of its warships were attacked by Iran as they passed through the Strait of Hormuz.

“The American forces intercepted unprovoked Iranian attacks and responded with defensive strikes as missile-launching destroyers from the US Navy crossed the Strait of Hormuz towards the Gulf on May 7,” wrote Centcom, the US Central Command for the Middle East, adding that it involved “missiles, drones, and small boats.”

The American army “neutralized the threats and targeted Iranian military installations responsible for the attacks against the American forces, including missile and drone launch sites, command and control centers, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance facilities,” specified Centcom.

“A friendly tap on the wrist” for Donald Trump

A senior American official indicated to Fox News that the ports of Qeshm, Bandar Abbas, and the naval base of Bandar Kargan in Minab, all located near the strait, were notably hit. However, the official ensures that this does not mean the end of the ceasefire or the resumption of war.

President Donald Trump described this response as a “friendly tap on the wrist,” while asserting that Iran was “hard hit.” Meanwhile, the Iranian army accused the United States of previously “targeting an Iranian oil tanker leaving the Iranian shores” and retaliated by attacking American military ships.
