Down in the score, Toulouse managed to turn the tide to win on Strasbourg’s turf (2-1), after a fast-paced and undecided match until the final minutes.
This time, Gary O’Neil made seven changes. After the nine modifications made three weeks ago, during the debacle at home against Rennes (0-3), the Strasbourg coach once again made a significant overhaul for the visit of Toulouse Football Club this Sunday. Without Panichelli (injured), Barco and Doué (recovering), the English technician also managed without Godo and Chilwell (out of the squad), Enciso, Moreira, Emegha, El Mourabet, and Omobamidele (on the bench), and his revamped lineup of the day did not escape defeat at the Meinau (1-2).
A match that had started well for RCSA, with Amo-Ameyaw opening the score in the first half-hour with a beautiful curling shot (1-0, 27th minute), one minute after Nanasi struck the post (26th minute). Leading in this match, Strasbourg mainly took advantage of their chances as Toulousains were more daring. Hidalgo missed a clear opportunity (5th minute), Russel-Rowe (9th minute), Hidalgo again (15th minute), and Gboho (45th+2) all missed shots on Penders and it was Methalie, just before the final whistle, who managed to equalize after a significant acceleration and a well-placed shot from the area (1-1, 43rd minute).
Casseres turned on the light
For a while we thought the second half would be similar, especially when Russel-Rowe missed again against Penders (48th minute), but this second half was actually even tighter than the first. It took until the last moments to see a team show dominance again, unsurprisingly TFC, and Emerson was able to beat Penders after apparently being offside (1-2, 84th minute). A goal made possible by Casseres’ brilliant pass to Methalie for the equalizer.
Defeated at home, RCSA also faced real concern towards the end of the match when Emegha, despite coming on late (82nd minute), held his left thigh back and seemed to fear the worst, on the ground, at the final whistle. Although this defeat has no real impact on the standings, with BlueCo-controlled club (8th) far from European positions, an injury to the Dutch player would be very unfortunate, just four days before meeting Rayo Vallecano (lost 1-0 in Spain on Thursday night). Toulouse, still 10th on their side, came back within a point of Lorient (9th) to try and finish these coming days as best as possible.
