Adèle Haenel, from actress to activist: I made a political choice that makes me prouder to live

On the occasion of an exchange on solidarity at the International Film Festival and Human Rights Forum in Geneva, the actress reflected on her break with the film industry and the strength she found in activism. She defined solidarity as “an exchange of resistance practices” and touched on various fronts of struggle, from Palestine to colonialism.

Haenel also discussed her decision to leave the cinema industry, stating that it was unbearable to live in silence regarding the injustices she faced and witnessed. She highlighted her commitment to fighting against sexual violence and spoke about how it changed her life.

The activist emphasized the importance of resistance and organization, stating that solidarity is not just about helping others – it’s about living authentically. She shared her journey through activism and emphasized the importance of standing up for what you believe in.
