The Windsor Police Service is noting a decrease in youth crime despite a recent tragic incident involving a 16-year-old being killed, marking the city’s second murder of the year. Investigation Services Superintendent Paolo Di Carlo revealed that youth crime has been on a downward trend compared to 2025, with fewer incidents and arrests related to crimes against persons and violent offenses. Di Carlo emphasized the importance of prevention and early intervention efforts to address youth crime, highlighting initiatives like youth diversion programs and collaboration with schools and community partners.
In a recent incident on Sunday evening, officers responded to a report of a person with a weapon on Tecumseh Road East and discovered a 16-year-old male victim with a stab wound. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim passed away at the hospital. The suspect, an 18-year-old male, was swiftly apprehended at a residence on Goyeau Street and is facing charges including first-degree murder.
While the investigation is ongoing, police believe it to be a targeted incident and assure the public that there is no ongoing threat. Di Carlo expressed sympathy for the families affected by the tragedy and emphasized the lasting impact of such events.
