By beating Auxerre (3-2) at the Groupama Stadium, OL won its 1,070th victory in 67 seasons in Ligue 1, in 2,465 games played. This total number of victories is significant, as it allows the Lyon club to surpass its historical rival, ASSE, who has 1,069 victories in 2,566 matches (70 seasons in the elite), although some statistics websites related to the St Etienne club count 1,070.
In fact, one of the matches counted against Toulouse (1-0) during the 2000-2001 season was awarded to TFC (0-0) by the State Council due to the so-called fake passport scandal.
So, for the first time, OL, founded in 1950, surpasses its rival, born in 1933. Last year, the two clubs each won a home victory. 1-0 for OL on November 10, 2024, at the Groupama Stadium, and 2-1 for ASSE on April 20, 2025, at Geoffroy-Guichard. OL is now in 4th place in the ranking of French clubs in D1/L1, behind Marseille (1,222), Monaco (1,114), and Bordeaux (1,075).
Bordeaux next rival to surpass… next season
OL will surpass the Girondins, who are now far from the elite, and will climb to the third step of the podium next season. At most this season, OL will end with 1,073 victories.
