Two people were killed on Friday, April 24 after an American strike on a boat suspected of participating in drug trafficking. Since the beginning of this anti-drug campaign, 182 people have died.

The campaign remains contested. A strike on a boat suspected of participating in drug trafficking killed two people on Friday, April 24 in the eastern Pacific, the U.S. army announced, bringing the death toll of this contested military anti-drug campaign to at least 182.

“The army conducted a kinetic strike today against a vessel operated by designated terrorist organizations,” the U.S. Southern Command stated.

At least 7 strikes in April

“Intelligence services confirmed that the ship was traveling on known drug trafficking routes in the East Pacific and was involved in drug trafficking operations,” he added, echoing terms used to describe dozens of deadly operations since the beginning of the campaign last September.

American military officials have claimed at least seven such strikes in April, resulting in a total of at least 182 people killed during these operations, according to AFP.

The Trump administration has never provided solid evidence to support the claim that the targeted ships were actually involved in trafficking. Experts and UN officials have denounced extrajudicial executions.
