The G20 summit will take place on December 14-15 in Miami, United States, at a golf resort owned by the Trump family. Russia stated, “No decision has been made yet.”

On Thursday, April 23, Donald Trump expressed doubts that his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, would attend the G20 summit scheduled for December in Florida. Trump stated, “To be honest, I doubt he will come,” when asked by a journalist if Putin had been invited.

Earlier on Thursday, a senior White House official confirmed to AFP that Russia would indeed be invited to the G20 summit. Moscow has not immediately commented on whether Putin will attend in person.

“No formal invitation has been issued yet, but Russia is a G20 member and will be invited to attend ministerial meetings and leaders’ summit,” said the anonymous source. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin mentioned on Wednesday that his country had been invited to participate at the highest level.

On Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified that the question of Putin’s potential participation had not been decided yet.

” No decision of this kind has been made yet, but Russia has participated in every summit at the appropriate level,” Peskov stated during his daily press briefing. “As the summit approaches, a decision will be made on the format of our participation.”

Facing an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) for “war crimes” related to the Russian offensive in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin did not attend the previous G20 summit in Johannesburg in November 2025.

This year, the United States holds the rotating presidency of the G20, an economic cooperation forum among the world’s major developed and emerging countries.
