Team USA will look to bounce back against a dominant European team that has been on a winning streak for three decades.

Jim Furyk would be the fourth American captain to get a second chance since 1979, considered the start of the modern era of the Ryder Cup with the integration of continental Europe.

Three sources close to the matter revealed that Furyk was chosen by the Ryder Cup committee after Tiger Woods withdrew from the competition following his DUI arrest on March 27. They requested anonymity as PGA of America has not yet made an official announcement.

Furyk was the captain in 2018 at the Golf National in Paris, where Europe secured another dominant victory with a 2-10-0 record for the American team choices.

Europe had a record-breaking seven-point lead after two days of competition last year at Bethpage Black, which they maintained to secure their second consecutive win under the leadership of Luke Donald, who will return as captain for the third time in Ireland.
