Banks rushed his recovery from a foot injury he suffered early last year in order to return for the final two games of a disappointing season for the Gators – a sign that he is truly committed to competing with his teammates.
“To be honest, I’m not the kind of person to give up,” Banks said during a post-draft call. “I wanted to be out there with my teammates, playing football. I love the game. I love everything about it, from the hard work to the late nights and early mornings, the intense workouts in the weight room. I love it all. So, I never thought about giving up. You know what I mean?
“I knew my foot was broken in the second quarter against LSU. I got a shot in my foot, but it didn’t help. I still went back out there,” he explained. “And then it completely broke. But I kept fighting. I also fought through the combine. I am fiercely competitive. That’s just who I am. I didn’t mean to swear, but that’s the mindset I was in. That’s just who I am.”
