Nothing seems to be able to stop the tidal wave of AI-generated music on streaming platforms.
Leading the fight against AI-generated music, specifically through its advanced detection algorithm, French streaming platform Deezer has released a new alarming report on the surge hitting platforms daily. According to Deezer, 44% of daily uploads are now generated by AI, compared to 39% last January.
75,000 AI-generated tracks per day
It has been over a year since Deezer has been actively labeling tracks entirely or partially generated by AI tools like Suno or Udio, with 99% certainty. Despite their efforts, more AI-generated music is making its way onto platforms daily.
The AI-generated music issue extends beyond Deezer to all streaming platforms. Except for Deezer, Qobuz, and to some extent Bandcamp, other platforms like Spotify and Apple Music do not seem to fully grasp the problem.
Most streams are fraudulent
The problem with AI-generated music lies in its mass production online, overshadowing the work of human artists. Deezer excludes AI-identified tracks from recommendations, but other platforms, including Spotify, regularly feature AI-generated tracks in public playlists.
The underlying issue is that AI music caters to bots rather than humans. With a growing number of AI-generated tracks uploaded daily, opportunistic producers engaging in fraudulent streaming tactics aggravate the discoverability problem for genuine artists on streaming platforms.
