In the United States, a total of six charges have been filed against Pete Hegseth by Democratic officials. They specifically accuse the minister of initiating an unauthorized war against Iran without prior approval from Congress.
They also accuse him of authorizing, or at the very least not preventing, operations that resulted in numerous civilian casualties, including a strike on a primary school on February 28 that claimed 168 lives.
Additionally, it is claimed that Pete Hegseth exhibited serious negligence in handling classified military information, citing a conversation on the Signal group where a journalist was mistakenly added, leading to discussions among the Defense Minister and other high-ranking officials about strikes in Yemen.
The House of Representatives will now have to decide on these charges. If validated, the Senate will then judge Pete Hegseth to determine whether he should be removed from office.
However, with a House currently dominated by Republicans, the impeachment process may not progress beyond the first stage. Democrats may still renew their attempt if they gain the majority in the upcoming November elections.
