Ambroise Paget summed up his career in a somewhat funny way when asked to talk about his journey. Representing the ESF de Combloux, the Haut-Savoyard won the trainee giant slalom in Courchevel on Thursday. “It’s been five years that I’ve been training, I even extended my booklet, so winning today is cool,” he said, smiling, after isolating himself in the Ineos club for a little break outside the noisy hustle and bustle.

The 26-year-old skier knows the competition well. He spent a few years on the FIS circuit, with a second place in giant slalom in Val-Thorens in 2018, and several top 10 finishes. He also tried his hand at the Europa Cup, but he emphasizes that he was not in a group. Turning away from alpine skiing in recent years, Ambroise Paget has moved towards skicross. Here too, he shines on the continental circuit, with several podium finishes including a victory in Saisies in March 2025. But he wants more: “I would like to join the World Cup group and shine on the circuit.”

“For future generations, we will be a big family of skiers”

Although alpine skiing is not hereditary for this Combloran, he hopes to change that. “We are not a big family of skiers (note: his father does some cross-country skiing and his brother does biathlon). But it’s following suit. My sister is a ski instructor, and I think that for the next generations, we will be this big family of skiers.”

His family also includes the ESF. “We have been supported since we were little.”

As a trainee instructor for five years, he had to pause his studies to fulfill his dreams of glory. “Now, I’m going back to high level, and next year, it will be slalom,” the versatile athlete announced. He has been participating in the Challenge for three years. “There will be more, but I don’t hope for them right away. Before that, I would like to have a real career in skicross.”
