In an interview over the weekend, Emmanuel Macron expressed views on France Insoumise regarding the issue of antisemitism. He denounced “antisemitic expressions” within the party and supported the political labeling of the movement as “far-left.” Éric Kerrouche, senator (PS) of Landes, reacted to this intervention on the morning show “Bonjour chez vous.” For Éric Kerrouche: “Antisemitism has long been a poison in French political life since the Dreyfus affair. It is not acceptable as a global behavior, it is not an opinion, it is a crime. Emmanuel Macron considers the political classification of a party in strict terms. There are regular antisemitic expressions in political debate. But when it comes to stigmatizing a party, labels are put on some while ignoring what others do. Any expression in this direction, wherever it comes from, is condemnable.” Éric Kerrouche also commented on the recent floods in Landes: “We can see with climate change that these extreme events are multiplying. In the southwest, it took the form of floods and a storm that passed through my department. I think we don’t focus much on these issues, and at least they take a back seat in the news, while for people experiencing these events daily, it becomes increasingly complicated. We need to face the facts and address real problems, not superficial controversies. Otherwise, we forget that structurally, we are heading towards a different world, and our departments will be gradually affected.”
