Yves Jégo, former minister, expressed his concern about the lack of awareness in the political spectrum regarding the importance of making production the engine of France’s future. Speaking at a breakfast event organized by the Origine France Garantie association in Paris on April 15, Jégo, who co-founded the association promoting Made in France, emphasized the need to focus on the economy of production.

During the event where a charter for “buying French” was presented to mayors and local authorities, the upcoming presidential election also dominated discussions. Jégo believes that the economy of production should be the number one issue in the upcoming challenges. He sees it as a true societal project, unifying for the nation. Jégo highlights the importance of production in maintaining sovereignty, freedom, and the social model, emphasizing the impact of buying French products on social and fiscal balances.

Jégo describes the current situation as critical, with the industry accounting for only 10% of GDP compared to over 20% in the 1970s. He points out the dependency on imports, especially in agriculture, and the need to increase awareness and appreciation for locally made products. Despite the growing interest in the Made in France movement, significant challenges remain in elevating the production issue on the political agenda and within business circles.

Jégo stresses the need for a shift in mindset, recognizing the consumer over the producer in society. He warns against the powerful influence of companies that have chosen to relocate production and calls for a united effort to support local industries. The battle for the production ideology extends beyond political and business realms, requiring a shift in societal perceptions and values towards domestic production.
