L’Opéra-Comique, the prestigious Juilliard School of Music, and Villa Albertine have announced a partnership agreement aimed at Franco-American cultural exchanges in the field of classical music. The program will begin next May with public master classes organized at the Salle Favart.
This year, under the initiative of Louis Langrée, the conductor and director of the Opéra-Comique, the Campus Favart was created, bringing together the Academy and the Popular Mastery of the Parisian institution. It is within this framework that an exchange program was initiated with the renowned Juilliard School of Music in New York and Villa Albertine, an institution of the French Embassy in the United States that aims to strengthen ties between the United States, France, and the French-speaking world through culture and education.
Supported by the AXA Foundation for Human Progress, this first international exchange program of Campus Favart, focused on singing, will offer master classes, coaching sessions, and joint concerts in New York and Paris for singers from the Academy of the Opéra-Comique and the Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts at the Juilliard School this year and next.
Two master classes led by Brian Zeger and Louis Langrée will be held at the Opéra-Comique in May. The first, led by Brian Zeger, a renowned American pianist and artistic director of the vocal department at Juilliard School, will bring together Thaïs Raül-Westphal (soprano), Flore Royer (mezzo-soprano), and Flore-Elise Capelier (chief singing pianist), all artists from the Academy of Opéra-Comique.
The following day, three students from the Juilliard School: Fantine Douilly (soprano), Nathan Romporti (tenor), and Giancarlo Llerena (lead singing pianist) will have the opportunity to benefit from the experience and advice of Louis Langrée. These two one-hour master classes are open to the public for 5 euros and free for students.
At 8:00 PM, to conclude this first day of exchanges, the Academy of the Opéra-Comique will share the stage with students from the Juilliard School for a recital featuring works by Jules Massenet, Maurice Ravel, Charles Ives, and Samuel Barber. In the second part, the young and renowned French soprano Julie Roset will perform, accompanied by her faithful pianist Susan Manoff and artists from the Academy of Opéra-Comique.
In March 2027, a new two-week exchange session is announced, from March 7 to 13 in Paris and March 22 to 26 in New York.
