After years of difficulty, the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee (CDOS) of Ariège is back on track. With a focus on professionalization, combating violence, and new facilities in La Tour-du-Crieu, the governing body for sports in the department is aiming high for the period 2025-2029.

The assembly of renewal, of resurgence. After a few challenging years, the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee of Ariège has regained dynamism, a new momentum. “We have broadened our range of possibilities to develop sports for everyone,” said Pierre Marchant, the president. The sports scene in Ariège boasts around 38,000 licensees (with 36% being women) spread across over 600 clubs and 49 departmental committees. The CDOS is there to support this community, especially through training sessions. Additionally, the CDOS Development Officer, Cyril Balondrade, has assisted 14 clubs in preparing grant applications and supported the deployment of the Pass’Sport program.

A particularly eventful year in 2025

“The objective of the CDOS is to serve departmental sports, allowing our volunteers to professionalize,” continued Pierre Marchant. The focus in the year 2025 was on actions against violence, including signing a protocol against gender-based and sexual violence, initially limited to team sports. Efforts are underway to expand this to individual sports. Various events and initiatives were organized, such as conferences on addiction, sports events like the Canoe and Kayak World Cup, and projects like Festiv’handi santé and Acti’Senior.

Volunteerism, a priority

Focusing on volunteerism, the CDOS initiated the project “1 young person, 1 old person, let’s build our club of tomorrow” to identify, recruit, and train young individuals to become future volunteers. Significant progress has been made, especially with resolving a long-standing issue with the CDOS headquarters, which has now been relocated and renovated in La Tour-du-Crieu. Financially, the CDOS is in a stable position with a surplus of around €2000, indicating a positive outlook for the future.
